Greville Janner has served the British and Jewish communities his entire working life.

He joined the army at 18, serving as the youngest War Crimes Investigator in the British Army of the Rhine and worked at weekends with survivors in the Bergen Belsen Displaced Persons camp.

He was President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews (1979-1985). He is the Founder and President of the Commonwealth Jewish Council (1982- ) and the Inter Parliamentary Council Against Antisemitism (1985- ). A Vice-President of World Jewish Congress since 1991, Lord Janner travels the Jewish world seeking to ensure the rights of Jewish communities. He is Chairman of the Holocaust Educational Trust and of the Lord Forte Charitable Trust.

Lord Janner has throughout his career sought to foster good relations between different faiths and religions. His book, One Hand Alone Cannot Clap, is testament to this work.
